No major competition promotes equal footing in the manner of the NFL: it’s the entire brand. Yet following 10 weeks of this season, this doesn't represent a landscape that is equally balanced among elite teams, poor performers, and average squads. Rather, we see a situation where the majority of teams are merely adequate.

NFC Standings Definition

Within the National Football Conference, to some degree, there is some clarity. Los Angeles and Seattle (both at 7-2) look like the most balanced franchises across the league, and delivered decisive victories on Sunday. The 6-2 Eagles even with their challenges still have among the most gifted lineups throughout football, likewise with Green Bay (five wins, two losses, one tie). The Lions also (6-3), who have been inconsistent in trench play and have been dealing with coaching drama, have shown they can defeat quality opponents. Muddled AFC Picture

In the AFC however, postseason landscape remains completely chaotic. This development isn't entirely shocking that the Ravens have pulled to within one game of Pittsburgh, but how rapidly this occurred represents criticism toward Pittsburgh's fluctuating form. The fact Baltimore began losing five of six and currently seem capable of division victory reveals much about the conference as a whole.

Established Contenders

The Ravens represent a segment among three elite teams – alongside the Bills and Chiefs – powered by their MVP quarterbacks, who would still strike the greatest concern in opposing teams if they made the playoffs.
